Waiting for warm weather

Hi all,

I am the proud new owner of Scott Alexander's ASW 15B, S/N 15189, N737T, new call letters ZO, flying out of Eagleville in the green hills of middle Tennessee, USA.  Scott is an incredible pilot and his logbook is an inspiration.  He flew the bird at New Castle last September and scored in the top 10, along with Karl Streidich.

I am a new pilot.  I have passed the written (97%) and will take the practical test after some more training at Chilhowee.  I should have my certificate by April.

Here in middle Tennessee we have formed a new club, Eagleville Soaring LLC with 18 members, taking over the operation of Puckett Field from Bill McFarlane, who is retiring.  Puckett is a grass runway airfield in the country south of Nashville.

I fly a lot of gliders in MS FSX that I download from Wolfgang Piper's site.  They give a good idea at a sort of cartoon level of the aerodynamics of a glider.  So I've flown a lot of gliders this way, and I must say the aerodynamics of the 15 are very, very sweet.

Scott - I'm going to take you up on your offer to teach me the avionics in my 15!  And let's fly together.  I'm an eager student.

I just read your post, my name is Tom Snyder and I just passed my practical last Tuesday. I'm also a new ASW 15 owner N1515B  (I haven't flown it yet) - it's parked at Chilhowee where I have done most of my training.  I'm usually at Chilhowee every weekend, look me up next time you are over.  Sarah is going to start transitioning training this weekend - can't wait to fly the ASW-15!!!

The weather has been so crappy in TN, I went out to Turf Soaring in Phoenix for a week of flying and took my practical while I was out there. Great place to fly with gigantic thermals.

Congratulations, Tom!

I'm sure we have friends in common- a lot (if not all) of our club (Huntsville Soaring Club) members go up to Chilhowee and Eagleville.

I started flying gliders in the 1970s in Birmingham- a lot of the guys down there talked about Chilhowee a lot, too. But strange to say, I haven't been there yet. It's on my 'must-do' list.

I was planning to get some ASK-21 time at Eagleville before I flew my -17, but I got impatient and went ahead and just did it. Turns out, the -21 time wasn't necessary- the -17 is a pussycat, just like the -15 is reputed to be.

About Phoenix- I lived in Tucson for a couple of years; I never got to fly gliders there, but I could tell it would have been amazing just by watching the enormous dust devils.

I spent all day today flying at Chilhowee, it was really beautiful.  When are you coming over?  I'm kind of hoping we can launch our ASW 15s together one of these days.  I still haven't flown mine but I am very close - probably this next week, I now have about 8 solos in the Blanik and I soled the K7 on the offset belly hook today. Sarah says I'm ready, I just need to wait for the right weather conditions. Hope all is well
