Re:Pictures - 2004/10/11 17:56 H Michael,

Thanks for your picture; I will put it in the gallery asap.

Could you tell me when this "Quota exceeded" error happens? then I can take a look at it. Note: I restricted the size of images to 800x600 and 250 KB, because this site site isn't sponsored whatsoever and I have to pay for the webspace. If this is the problem, you could use your favorite image program and use the resize option. Or... you can contact me here and I will get back to you by email; so you can send me some more pictures.

Re:Pictures - 2004/10/12 20:25 Hello,

I saw the picture of Michael's 15, and I wonder where he (and his
girlfriend) did find those magnificent winglets. Can anyone tell me
if there is a gain in L/D due to the winglets and where they can be
obtained ?
I had my 15 completely re-gelcoated this spring bij SZD in Poland.
They did a fantastic job, and my ship looks as brandnew.
Promis to sent some pictures in the near future.

Re:Pictures - 2004/10/12 20:55 Hello Andre,

The wingletdesign was developed by a friend as his diploma thesis at the DLR. Sadly he went to Australia...
Together with another friend, my girl and me built moulds and attached these winglets to the both ASW15 and one ASW19. They were certified as single piece changes.
Due to the fact that we have the moulds, we can build more winglets.
But with the installation of the new EASA authority, single piece changes are no longer possible. We are on a general certification, but it is a long way, where the manufacturer and a certified workshop have to be integrated. And they all have enough problems with the EASA certification, so that i don´t expect any progress in the next few years.

From a scientific view, the L/D is not significant changed in the first order approximation, because winglets increase the drag, while they increase the lift. But they improve the handling of elder gliders strongly, because elder gliders were developed for maximum perfomance with no respect to the handling (see ASW12 without airbrakes and so on).
So you just fly longer without getting tired....

Re:Pictures - 2004/10/12 23:51 Well Michael,

Thank's for your prompt answer.
I understand that I have to look further in my search foor winglets on my ASW 15B.
On the ASW 15 production list I found out that your ship is worknr.
15351 , while mine is 15355 with call-sign OO-YWA.
So they were made shortly after one another.

Greetings,

André
